Welcome to the Languages Department

“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.”
Nelson Mandela

The MFL Department at Salendine Nook High School Academy strongly believes that learning another language raises awareness of the multilingual and multicultural world and introduces an international dimension to pupils’ learning, enabling them to better understand their own culture and those of others.

Across Key Stage Three, our schemes of work have been designed to allow pupils to progress effectively in the language whilst gaining valuable insight into the culture of countries where the target language is spoken around the world.

At Key Stage Four, we examine with Edexcel.  Pupils review topics previously studied albeit in more depth alongside essential linguistic skills allowing them to successfully access GCSE tasks.

The MFL Department also enriches pupils’ language experience by offering extra-curricular activities such as trips abroad, a foreign film club and theme days.

Curriculum Content

Below you will be able to read what your child is studying during each half term.  ‘Key Stage Three’ will give an overview of study for Years 7, 8 and 9.  ‘Key Stage Four’ will outline teaching content for Years 10 and 11.

The ‘Curriculum Rationale’ will give you the reasoning behind why we teach your child what we do and why we have chosen to order the topics in the way we have.

We hope that you will find this information useful, but if you require anything further about your child’s education in this subject please do not hesitate to contact the Head of Department.
