Welcome to the PE Department
Physical education is strong department with a well-rounded team of staff, who offer expertise in a number of different curriculum areas. PE is a core subject throughout key stage 3 and 4 and is also offered at examination level at KS4 for those students wishing to expand upon their knowledge of a broad range of PE and sports topics. Core PE encompasses a wide variety of sports including but not limited to, football, basketball, netball, rugby, hockey, badminton, trampolining, swimming, OAA, athletics, tennis, rounders and golf to name a few. Examination PE currently consists of a choice between the GCSE or vocational VCert qualification. Both pathways include knowledge on body systems, methods of training, nutrition, components of fitness, health and wellbeing, performance enhancing drugs and healthy lifestyles. Each pathway currently has an exam, with the GCSE having 2 papers, as well as a practical assessment.
We aim to offer students a positive experience in PE so they can achieve enjoyment through exercise. This will then hopefully lead to them leading healthy, active lifestyle.

Curriculum Content
Here you will be able to read what your child is studying during each half term. ‘Key Stage Three’ will give an overview of study for Years 7, 8 and 9. ‘Key Stage Four’ will outline teaching content for Years 10 and 11.
The ‘Curriculum Rationale’ will give you the reasoning behind why we teach your child what we do and why we have chosen to order the topics in the way we have.
We hope that you will find this information useful, but if you require anything further about your child’s education in this subject please do not hesitate to contact the Head of Department.
