Welcome to Performing Arts
Performing Arts is a highly vibrant and creative department, led by professionals in their field of Music, Dance and Drama. At Key Stage 3 pupils are immersed into practical and engaging schemes of learning in music and drama, that develop their performance and theoretical practice, whilst encouraging transferable skills such as communication, leadership and confidence. At Key Stage 4, pupils can study GCSE Drama, GCSE Dance and GCSE Music. In Drama pupils have the opportunity to further develop through devising and scripting drama as well as studying live theatre. In Dance pupils work on choreographing and analysing professional works as well as studying safe practices for rehearsing and solo/group performing skills. Within Music, pupils develop skills within composing, performing and appraising a range of genres of Music. The department also contributes hugely to the wider curriculum through the Talent Show, School Shows, Christmas and Carol Concerts, along with opportunities for pupils to visit London on the Performing Arts trip and also take part in the Choir Tour, which has previously visited Paris, Belgium and Italy. There are several music, drama, film and dance clubs which run during or after the school day. Please see our extra curriculum poster for more information.

Curriculum Content
Here you will be able to read what your child is studying during each half term. ‘Key Stage Three’ will give an overview of study for Years 7, 8 and 9. ‘Key Stage Four’ will outline teaching content for Years 10 and 11.
The ‘Curriculum Rationale’ will give you the reasoning behind why we teach your child what we do and why we have chosen to order the topics in the way we have.
We hope that you will find this information useful, but if you require anything further about your child’s education in this subject please do not hesitate to contact the Head of Department.
