Welcome to the Maths Department

‘In mathematics the art of asking questions is more valuable than solving problems’
Georg Cantor (German Mathematician 1845-1918)

The Mathematics department is a forward thinking and innovative department that strives to ensure that students of all abilities are nurtured and challenged to achieve their full Mathematical potential. Our aim is to provide lessons of the highest quality where pupils are engaged, encouraged to question and reason mathematically and are inspired to develop a love of learning. This will provide the pupils with the resilience and confidence to cope with Mathematics in everyday life and their chosen career.

Pupils in year 7 and 8 follow the White Rose Mastery of Maths course where lessons focus on building confidence and resilience around basic skills and then applying these skills in problem solving scenarios. Being successful in Maths in the early years of high school inspires pupils to develop a passion for the subject.

In year 9 pupils begin the GCSE Maths course where communication skills are further developed. Pupils use logic, reason and organisational skills to tackle a mixture of real life Maths problems and algebra. Regular testing using past GCSE papers means that our pupils are well prepared for the final three exams in year 11.

Curriculum Content

Here you will be able to read what your child is studying during each half term.  ‘Key Stage Three’ will give an overview of study for Years 7, 8 and 9.  ‘Key Stage Four’ will outline teaching content for Years 10 and 11.

The ‘Curriculum Rationale’ will give you the reasoning behind why we teach your child what we do and why we have chosen to order the topics in the way we have.

We hope that you will find this information useful, but if you require anything further about your child’s education in this subject please do not hesitate to contact the Head of Department.
