On Friday 5th May, nine of our Year 10 Engineering students went to Kirklees College Engineering Centre.
First of all, the students were given a tour by some of the college tutors. It was great to see the wide range of facilities and get a glimpse into college life.
Then, they went to three different sessions: Practical beam analysis, materials testing, and Computer Aided Design + Maths – Using a computer to predict a result.
After that, there was a bridge building competition. The students had to work in groups of three, to build a bridge using a limited range of materials. They were up against a lot of groups from three other schools. The bridges were tested to see how much weight they would hold before they broke. Our students really got stuck in; they really enjoyed the task and worked well in their teams.
One of our teams was victorious, by quite a distance. Their bridge held 2.5kg, with the next closest holding 1.8kg! Well done to Zayn, Jacob and Harvey! They received a £10 Amazon voucher each.
The students who took part were: Ciaran Sloan, Jacob Armstrong, Kenny McLeod, Ibrahim Tariq, Paige Tandy, Robert Bodenham, Zayn Aslam, Bodie Illand, Harvey Eastwood
