Engineering Club – Sustainability Project

In Design & Technology by Salendine Nook

The Engineering Club have been busy this half term, working on a collection point for plastic bottle tops. The bottle tops would normally be thrown away causing plastic pollution, unnecessary landfill and wasted valuable resources.

The bottle tops collected, will be melted down and made into fun and useable products. The sustainability project will raise environmental awareness and team work across our school.

So far the Engineering Club students have been using skills learned in lessons, as well as developing new skills such as Techsoft 2D Design and Adobe Illustrator, laser cutting, experimented with melting bottle tops, and painting.

The plan is to launch a whole school House competition at the beginning of the Summer term where students will be asked to save up their plastic bottle tops and bring them in, with the aim being to collect the most for their House. Points and prizes will be available for the most collected and the Engineering Club will start production of their products!
