Women in Construction November 2018

In Careers News by Salendine Nook

Girls in Years 9 and 10 at Salendine Nook High School were invited to the Women in Construction event at Kirklees College. There were guest talks at the college from those in Industry discussing different pathways in construction. This was to help spread awareness of the different pathways and a fun interactive workshop for the students to take part in.

The girls then went over to Huddersfield University, where Morgan and Sindall are currently running a project. A site tour took place and those in Industry gave a talk on their job roles, career paths to the students and a discussion on the true meaning of construction.

Women in construction is a way of informing female students about potential careers within Industry which in the past has been prominently dominated by a male workforce. The idea was to highlight the benefits and importance of spreading awareness so that women gain a better understanding and a chance to ask questions of the local professionals that were there.
