Curriculum Changes

Dear Parent/Carer

We have decided to make some changes to our Key Stage 4 provision for next year. Technology and ICT will no longer be core subjects.

This has three significant advantages:

  1. It allows us to set up a fourth option choice for students, offering 5 hours per fortnight rather than 4 hours per fortnight (on a two-week timetable)
  2. Students will be given a wider range of choices for their fourth option
  3. It allows more curriculum time for Maths, English and Science.

In this curriculum plan, pupils will still be able to continue with the Technology subject or the ICT course they have started this year. The ICT course could be the Computer Science GCSE or the Creative I-Media Technical Award.

If a student does not wish to continue with either a Technology subject or ICT, then they can choose between RE and Citizenship.

Here are the list of subjects that we are aiming to run:

  • Design & Technology Visual Communication - GCSE
  • Design & Technology Materials Technology - GCSE
  • Design & Technology Fashion & Textiles – GCSE
  • Design & Technology Food
  • Craft – Technical Award
  • Computer Science – GCSE
  • Creative I-Media  - Technical Award
  • Religious Education – GCSE
  • Citizenship - GCSE

There will be further opportunity to discuss at Parents’ Evening on Thursday.

Yours sincerely

Mr A Foster

Senior Vice Principal
