Kirklees College Young Chef of the Year 2017: Show Stopper Challenge

Kirklees College Hospitality department invited 'budding chefs' (from years 9, 10 and 11) from schools in Kirklees to take part in the 'Show Stopper Challenge'.

  • The first round was a technical challenge where the contestants made red velvet cupcakes with limited instructions, based on the BBC Great British Bake Off show.
  • Finally, the contestants had two hours to create and serve 4 portions of a restaurant style plated dessert and sweet sauce of their choice.
  • Entries were judged on taste, appearance, originality, seasonality, cost, use of local produce, working practices and cleanliness

Three students from SNHS were successful in the heats and won a place in the final; Amelia Garbutt in year 9, Alina Shukat and Chloe Sykes in year 10.

All three girls did extremely well and made some amazing products. We are extremely proud to announce that Amelia Garbutt achieved first place with her crème brûlée with raspberry coulis and a tuile stack!
