physicaleducation50Welcome to the PE Department

Course Information

The aim of the Physical Education Programme in Key Stage 4 is to provide opportunities to participate in physical activities conducive to a healthy lifestyle. Pupils will also be required to undertake different roles other than a performer such as leader, coach, organiser, scorer, referee, judge, choreographer or manager.

Pupils will have varied option choices throughout Years 9-11 in activities such as Football, Netball, Dance, Swimming, Orienteering, Athletics, Rugby, Hockey and many more. In Year 10 pupils will have the opportunity to do the Sports Leaders Award, which involves coaching and developing younger pupils at our local primary schools. They will also then organise a TOP LINK sports event for all Year 6 pupils coming up to Salendine Nook. Year 10 pupils can also sign up to participate in Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Activities take place within and outside of school.

In Year 11, successful Sports Leaders can apply to join our famous and successful Sports Academy. Our Sports Academy organises and leads various sports clubs and teams throughout the school. There are also other vocational qualifications on offer which include Lifesaving Levels 1 & 2 and refereeing.

Extra Curriculum changes

 Dear parent/carer

In order to keep you more informed I just wanted to let you know a few changes that we have made in PE in regards to extra-curricular activities.

Firstly, in order to make you aware of the fixtures that your child may take part in, these are now being published on the school website. If you click on the PE section you should be able to access all our upcoming fixtures for all year groups. This will be updated regularly with new fixtures as soon as we make them. There may be occasions where these are short notice but we will endeavour to put them on the website as soon as we have them.

Secondly, on an occasion that any of our fixtures are cancelled due to unforeseeable reasons, you will be notified via email as soon as we are aware of the cancellation. Please bear in mind that the weather plays a big part in the cancellation of fixtures and, as we will always try and play them if they have been arranged, that does sometimes mean we don’t know of a cancellation until lunchtime on the same day. I know this can cause issues if you have made arrangements to pick your child up at a different time. If this is the case on any day where we are forced to cancel a fixture, please contact me directly and I will do what we can to assist with the issue. My email is below or you can ring the school.

Thirdly, we have invested in 2 mobile phones dedicated entirely too Away fixtures. The numbers for these can be found below. These are to assist any parent/carer who needs to contact their child in an emergency and cannot get them directly. If your child has a home fixture, please contact the school.

Orange Phone: 07948494123

Blue Phone: 07948494116

There will be occasions where more than one away fixture is going on, so please try them both and the member of staff at the other end will be able to direct you further.

Finally, we will always hand a register into the schools main reception of students who are attending fixtures/clubs both home and away. However, we do expect students to inform their parents/carers if they are staying behind for a club or fixture as soon as they know. If it is short notice, we do offer the students the opportunity to ring home to check they are ok to attend. Please can you remind them of this to avoid any worry.

We will be implementing some further efficiency measures in the future, but if you have any further questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours Sincerely

Mr C Fenton

Head of PE

West Yorkshire Summer Youth Games

HHThe Huddersfield Hotshots represented Kirklees at the West Yorkshire Summer Youth Games on Tuesday 8th July and came 3rd. The girls had a great day out and did extremely well with having only 3 weeks to learn the routine. I would just like to thank all the girls for their hard work this year. The last couple of months have been very busy for the girls with BCA, UKCA, West Yorkshire Summer Youth Games and Sports Day. Ex pupils Amelia Jo-Lee and Verity Gledhill have dedicated themselves this year to the squad and have worked very hard on routines and competition preparation. I will be holding the annual cheerleading awards party for the girls on Monday 14thJuly, and hope to see the whole squad attend.

Well Done
Miss. Smith
