Morocco Trip

DSC 03011In the summer holidays 4 staff took 22 pupils to Morocco for 2 weeks. It was the first time that pupils from Salendine Nook have undertaken such a trip but everyone had a fantastic time and learned a lot about themselves. Their first night was spent in the vibrant and colourful city of Marrakech where they had to purchase a local mobile phone and provisions for the next phase of the trip; a walking expedition in the High Atlas mountains where they would climb Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa.

The next morning they set off to the Berber village of Aroumd and from here they walked to the basecamp in the Atlas mountains where they camped for 3 nights whilst trekking. The highlight of this phase of the trip was the ascent of Mount Toubkal which stands at over 4,000 metres above sea level. Despite meeting groups of trekkers who warned them about the tough ascent everyone made it to the summit with relative ease, although one or two pupils did suffer from the effects of being at altitude.

Swimming Competition

On Saturday 17th October SNHS entered an English Schools Swimming Championship at Huddersfield Leisure Centre. The afternoon involved a year 7/8 team of boys, year 7/8 team of girls and a year 9 team of girls competing in both 50m Medley Relays and 50m Freestyle Relays. All the swimmers demonstrated a high level of technical skill and gave 100% effort and determination. The boys were awarded bronze medals for both relays. Behaviour was exemplary and the afternoon was enjoyed by all. A special mention has to go to Emma Cable for her role as assistant team manager looking after the team and keeping motivation levels high.
