The Lawrence Batley Theatre’s Christmas Pantomime

User Rating:  / 0

Recently our very own Eleanor Thackray successfully auditioned and was chosen to perform in WebsiteThe Lawrence Batley Theatre’s Christmas Pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk. Eleanor performed in over 20 shows and over 15,000 audience members saw the show over the festive period.

I took my niece along to watch and was blown away by Eleanor’s performance, exaggerated reactions, well-choreographed dancing and her energy throughout- especially after so many shows and keeping up with her schoolwork!

Well done Eleanor- We can’t wait to see you in your next performance! Watch this space- I have a feeling we will see Eleanor’s name in lights very soon.

The Paper Birds Workshop

It has been a very busy and exciting year within the Drama Department! IMG 9445

One of the highlights was in May when Kylie Perry the Artists Director of 'The Paper Birds' Theatre Company joined the GCSE Year 10 Drama class to facilitate a workshop and explore some performance techniques.

IMG 9497The day was filled with exciting and inspiring ways to create performance from certain stimulus, verbatim and physical theatre. The Year 10s said they thoroughly enjoyed it and were given lots of ideas to begin their practical devised pieces. At the end of the session they presented the work they had done in a final performance and performed them back to Kylie who said they were A Level standard because of how moving and creative they were! Well done Year 10!IMG 9517

Miss Williamson and Miss Jackson were very proud of the way you conducted yourselves and the work you produced! Fingers crossed we get the pleasure of inviting 'The Paper Birds' into school again next year!

Special Effects Make-up

Outstanding achievement in Drama!

DSC00197Year 9 GCSE student, Georgia Lawrence, treated her class to an insight into her hobby, special effects make-up. This week Georgia taught a session to her fellow peers, talking them through all of the equipment needed and how to apply the make-up to create a gruesome effect. This is a keen interest of Georgia’s and the perfect opportunity to show her class her passion, as they are currently studying the horror genre.DSC00196

In the lesson she modelled creating bruises, cuts and scars and even created a detailed burn across the side of Miss Williamson’s face!

It was a real treat for her class and was fantastic to watch.

On Tuesday 1st December 2015 we held our annual Seasonal Concert. The audience, of over 200 friends and family, were entertained with a wide variety of music with a Christmas flavour.

All the bands, choirs and other musical ensembles that rehearse regularly in school performed, including Concert Band, Glee Choir, Boys Choir, Chamber Choir, Brass Group, String Group and Rock Band.  We were also delighted to welcome the choir from Moorland Primary School who sang beautifully, entertaining us with four Christmas songs.

Zak performed a comic reading of the “12 days of Christmas Thank You Letters and the concert concluded with a joint item with all performers and audience singing Jan Holdstock’s “Noel, Noel”.  A great way to start the Christmas countdown!
