Key Stage 3

The Curriculum Structure Key Stage 3

Students are currently taught in sets throughout Year 7 and Year 8. These sets are formed using information from primary schools and Key Stage 2 results. We also conduct a baseline test in the first few lessons of the first term to ensure pupils are correctly placed. Throughout their mathematical career at Salendine Nook, students are regularly assessed and there is movement between sets where appropriate.

KS3 is a two year course which prepares pupils for their GCSE course beginning in Year 9.
We place pupils in sets on entry to the school in September using the results of the KS2 SATs or teacher assessment when SATs results are unavailable. All pupils study the same topics but at different levels. The sets are regularly reviewed using information provided by the class teacher and using the results of module tests and examinations which pupils take. During the year as a result of this review if it is seen beneficial to a pupils progress they may move between sets at any time.

The department follows the National Numeracy Strategy at Key Stage 3, primarily using Collins Frameworking text books as a resource although lessons are taught using a variety of teaching styles to motivate and challenge pupils.
