Key Stage 4

Curriculum Organisation

Year 9

  • Pupils continue with the language they chose at the end of year 7.
  • All groups have 4 x 60 minute lessons per fortnight .
  • French classes will follow Expo 2 and Spanish classes will follow Mira Express 1 and 2 and German will use Echo Express 2.
  • Year 9 will be taught in mixed ability option blocks.
  • Latin may also be taken and pupils follow the Cambridge Latin Course. Latin is an ADDITIONAL and FAST-TRACK language.

The school and the department remain committed to the majority of pupils continuing with their language learning to GCSE, however it has been recognised that a number of pupils would benefit from taking a different subject.  We currently have about 65/70% of pupils taking a modern foreign language.

KS4 Languages continues with the new GCSE course from EdExcel, involving many controlled assessments in both year groups. Pupils continuing in KS4 chose their GCSE language in year 7 and will continue with this - French, Spanish or German.

All languages are allocated 4 x 60 minute lessons per fortnight. All groups are mixed ability.
