KS3 in ICT/Computing

Pupils regularly self and peer assess their work and progress is monitored by staff with both mid unit and end of Unit level assessments undertaken by students and marked internally by departmental staff.  Pupils who underperform in the assessments are identified and targeted help provided.Pupils in years 7 and 8 are taught in mixed ability form groups.

Upon entry into Year 7, pupils are given an online baseline assessment test which indicates their starting point for the subject.

Pupils follow the aspects of digital literacy, computer science and information technology and work through the following units:

  • Internet safety and cyber bullying
  • Computers - hardware
  • Graphics and desktop publishing
  • E-portfolio/BLOGs
  • Flash
  • Computer programming using Python
  • Scratch programming to produce a basic game
  • Presentations

Topics covered in year 8 are as follows:

  • Producing a game using Gamemaker
  • Introduction to basic business concepts
  • Recording and editing sounds – to produce a radio and motion advert for their game
